Coach Michelle Seidel

Michelle’s journey into the world of triathlons is a tale of inspiration, determination, and profound transformation. Embarking on her triathlon adventure in her early 40s, Michelle faced significant challenges: she hadn’t swum in over 20 years and struggled to run a single mile. Ignited by inspiration from her brother and an unwavering resolve to achieve her goals, she embraced the multifaceted challenge of triathlon. This bold decision marked the beginning of a journey that has been nothing short of transformational.

Residing in Orange County, California, she now offers her coaching services both locally and remotely, helping athletes discover their own paths to transformation and success.

Athletic Journey:

A lifelong athlete, Michelle’s early years were spent as a dedicated gym enthusiast and a competitive high school swimmer. This foundation paved the way for a remarkable resurgence into the world of sports in her 40s. She has participated in over 40 triathlon, swim, road cycling, and run races, securing 26 top 5 placements and completing an IRONMAN in an impressive 11:35 at the age of 46. Inspired by her mentor, Paul Deem, she took up track cycling in 2017 achieving several notable accomplishments:

  • 2019: Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalist at the USA Cycling Masters Track Nationals.
  • 2019: Silver in the SCNCA Elite Team Time Trial.
  • 2018: Gold at the SCNCA Elite Track Championships and multiple medals at the SCNCA Master’s Track Championships.

Coaching Philosophy:

Michelle’s coaching philosophy is deeply influenced by her own journey of overcoming challenges and rediscovering her athletic potential. Having transitioned from a sedentary lifestyle to an accomplished triathlete, she embodies the essence of transformation and resilience. This personal evolution has equipped her with a unique understanding of the balance required to excel in a demanding sport while maintaining a fulfilling life.

Her journey, marked by overcoming obstacles such as broken bones and a hip replacement, has endowed her with a profound empathy towards the physical and emotional hurdles that athletes often encounter. Michelle’s approach to coaching goes beyond the physical aspects of training; it delves into nurturing the mental and emotional strength needed to surmount life’s unexpected challenges.

Coach David Light

David Light brings over 20 years of experience to the world of fitness and triathlon, both as an elite athlete and a distinguished coach. His journey in the triathlon field is marked by remarkable achievements and a deep passion for the sport.

Athletic Journey:

Originally from Bristol, England, David was a nationally ranked swimmer and junior water polo player. He has been competing in triathlons for over 30 years at an elite level, including participation in multiple Ironman (140.6 mile) and double Ironman (281.2 mile) events. Notably, David finished second overall in the Virginia Double Ironman race in 2015. His consistent top 3 finishes in virtually every competition he enters demonstrate his dedication and expertise in the sport.

Coaching Philosophy:

David’s coaching philosophy centers around patience and a keen ability to listen to the concerns and goals of his athletes. He believes in molding individuals into better athletes through understanding and tailored guidance. David’s approach is both holistic and detailed, focusing on all aspects of triathlon training, from swim techniques to endurance building.

Personalized Coaching:

David Light’s coaching repertoire is built upon a foundation of certifications and diverse expertise. He is a certified USA Triathlon Coach and USA Swimming Instructor, and holds a F.I.S.T certification in Bike Fitting. Additionally, his qualifications as a personal trainer and lifeguard contribute to a well-rounded coaching approach.

David’s coaching skills are versatile, meeting the needs of both novice enthusiasts and seasoned competitors aiming for top finishes in their age groups. He excels in providing detailed swim instruction, encompassing both pool and open water environments. His open water swim clinics and personalized swim stroke analysis are designed to enhance efficiency and confidence in the water, a crucial aspect of triathlon success.

Beyond swimming, David extends his coaching to the cycling and running segments of triathlon. He offers expert bike fitting services and fundamental bike handling skills training, ensuring athletes are comfortable and efficient on their bikes. His running skills training is tailored to improve endurance and pace, rounding out a comprehensive triathlon training experience.

Coach Sherry Boston Rennard

Sherry is a world-class triathlete with more than 20 years of triathlon experience, having completed her first IRONMAN in 2006. Sherry is an IRONMAN Certified Coach located in Orange County, California. Sherry is a USAT All-American and World Ranked IRONMAN Triathlete whose accomplishments include 1st place Age Group finishes in four IRONMAN races, countless 1st place Age Group in 70.3 IRONMAN and Olympic Distance races, four time Kona IRONMAN World Championship finishes and 70.3 IRONMAN World Championships with podium finishes in two of them. She’s completed over 20 marathons including Boston x 3, Chicago and New York City. She’s also an ultra-trail runner who has completed the Avalon 50 mile run and 50k run five times with several first place finishes.

As a coach, Sherry has a rich history of success. With experience working with athletes new to endurance sports, accomplished age groupers and even some burgeoning pros, Sherry has had an enormous impact on the triathlon community. While she has assisted athletes in their efforts to break through barriers and reach new performance heights, she has found a special joy in helping new athletes hear the words “You are an IRONMAN” for the first time.
